Thirty years ago I looked at the future and predicted that the idea of home computers would be a bust. It was obvious to me that computers were way too complicated to ever gain any kind of widespread home use. Not my greatest moment of clairvoyance. So let’s put that one behind us. Today’s prediction … well, just look at how YouTube has grown in the past couple years. It has come from nowhere to being one of the top few web properties. But it’s not just YouTube. Dozens of other video sites have sprung up, and many are growing like crazy. Not only that … you have tools like The Flip video camera, which is about as simple and innovative as the transistor radio was when it was first introduced in the late 1950s. Push one button to turn it on. Push another button, and you are taping digitally. When you finish, you can push another button and plug the camera right into your computer to watch the video you just recorded. So the technology is already easy to use and will get more so. And the reason to use it is, having a person hear you and see you is WAY more effective than having a person just read the words you write. You can build a relationship with a person MUCH faster when they have audio and visual, too. And that is what the internet and blogging are all about … building relationships. So my current prediction is … video blogging is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger. That is one heck of a lot of videos being watched. Youtube, of course, is the biggest factor with over 4 billion video streams. But a lot of other properties are also showing a lot of videos. If that is what the public wants, shouldn’t YOU be giving them video - and building better relationships - on your blog?
