Make Money Blogging Part 8 | Site Promotion

Site Promotion in Simple Terms

Site promotion falls under the category of offpage optimization. This is the deal: you need links.
A lot of noobs don’t know how many links they need to make money. This is an interesting question isn’t it? How many links does it take to make money blogging? I would say that it all depends on very specific criteria like, how many links your competition has and how many pages are competing for your keyword. Also the age of the top ranking sites can be a factor as well.

In my experience I have found that you need a few more links than the site sitting at number one. But sometimes you actually need quite a few more links than the number one site. For example if the site you want to compete against has only 200 links but somehow they have managed to get two PR8 links with do follow, you are going to need to make up for those huge links with a ton of lower PR links. But at the end of the day whoever has more quality links wins!

I don’t work for Google and I don’t know more about its elusive algorithm than the next guy but, most of us agree that links play a very important role in ranking for your keywords in Google.

Everybody Needs To Understand This!

If you are a clueless noob or a clueless ex noob who has invested lots of time following the generic and misguided advice that the A-Listers rehash over and over, you can benefit from reading this post twice.

If you can’t write good content to save your life don’t worry. If you can’t afford a ghost writer don’t worry. If you can’t manage a Wordpress blog because it’s too darn complicated don’t worry. If you can’t figure out how to put an h1 tag in your html don’t worry. If you can’t optimize your blog for your keyword don’t worry. If you have no rss readers don’t worry. If you don’t know how much keyword density to shoot for when writing your post…don’t worry.

None of this is as critical in ranking for your keywords and getting targeted traffic that clicks as your ability to get links. If you are able to get tons of links, you can rank for whatever terms you want! It does not matter if you don’t write well, if you get the links you can compete with anyone .

If you have a blog where all the content is misspelled and hard to read, and the content is lousy…and you haven’t got a clue as to how to optimize your blog…your best bet is to get links! You can still generate traffic by producing inbound links.

Having Your Blog Optimized is Important Though

It’s still important to optimize your blog because then you will need less links. I take advantage of everything I can. Both onpage and offpage optimization are important, it just that I see way too many noobs focusing on onpage optimization when in fact it’s the offpage optimization that is critical.

So What’s The Plan?

OK, the first thing I do once I’ve decided on a keyword, checked the competitor links and overall optimization, bought a domain (pre owned if possible) and set up my blog and the ten pages of keyword focused content is I try to emulate the link structure of the top ranking site.

I research the links structure using SEO ELite and use that as my blueprint. I try like crazy to get as many of the same links as possible. The top ranking sites usually have great links from relevant pages. Also by doing this you will get a feel for what professionals do to promote a site. You’ll see some sites that were promoted almost purely on directory links and others promoted by article submissions. I am always learning something new from studying the top sites. I’ve seen many effective and creative strategies and have learned a lot over the years.

This is only the first part of our site promotion plan. The next post will deal with what to do after you get as many of your competitors links as possible. I will show you how to build links efficiently and effectively. You should be able to wrap up your site promotion in a week with the methods I am about to teach you.

What’s Next?

Well, after the next post, which is my link building method ( I get tons of links quickly), we still need to go over monetization. This is the trickiest part of the whole make money blogging business. I have to stomp on some popularly held beliefs about monetization and clear up a bit of nonsense that’s being perpetuated around the A-Lister Country Club.
