One of my favorite Wordpress plugins is the All In One SEO Pack plugin. A lot of new bloggers start with Wordpress because they (rightly) read all kinds of raving reviews about it. But many of these newbies switch to Blogger blogs because they are much easier to learn how to use. Once these noobs learn the ropes a little bit they usually head back to Wordpress because they realize the limitations of Blogger blogs. I read about folks migrating to Wordpress from Blogger all the time. If you are one of these people coming back to Wordpresss then the first thing you should do when you set up your blog is install the All In One SEO Pack. One problem with Blogger blogs is that when your pages show in the search results, it’s always with the blog name first then the post title. This is taken care of by the All In One SEO Pack. It makes it easy to manage certain basic SEO tweaks. 1. Titles: This is probably your most important on page seo factor. You should always include your keywords in your title but if you can’t then you should add them to the meta tags. All In One SEO Pack makes this easy. An options page allows you to edit your title and tags for each post. I always include my main keyword in the title as it seriously helps you rank for your keywords. (A little trick for you guys that have blogger blogs too: put your main keyword in your post title and publish the post. Then go back and change the title to something hip and catchy if you want. The first title will be saved in your meta.) 2. Descriptions: While your descriptions do not directly effect your seo it is still very important to write a good description. When your site shows up in the SERPS it’s your description that’s underneath the title. Write an interesting description and more people will come to your site. Again the SEO Pack allows you to do this for all of your posts. Descriptions can also be auto generated. Remember, the description should make people want to click. It doesn’t do anything for your seo directly but it is a factor in getting visitors to your site. Customizing your descriptions for each post is a really handy option! 3. Keywords: This option in the All In One SEO Pack is for your meta keywords. You want to include here the keyword or keywords you are targeting in your posts. See, at Blogger you don’t have this option either. You just have site wide keywords. Some say that meta keywords aren’t that important but others believe they are still a factor in your rankings. I wouldn’t go crazy here and add too many keywords. I try to keep the keywords focused on each individual page. I like to make it easy for Google to know what my content is about. Believe it or not this plugin can generate your keywords from your categories. 4. Duplicate content:All In One SEO Pack helps manage duplicate content problems. You can easily add a no index to your archives and tags. Just being able to quickly and easily manage these little seo oriented tasks for each and every page is what makes me a huge fan of All In One SEO Pack. You especially appreciate these options when you come from a platform like Blogger…which is what I did. I mean, who wants to mess around with editing php and css? Not me thanks. I’ll take the easy way out. So basically, this plugin streamlines your blog and makes the tweaking process more efficient. I can’t stress enough how nice it is to customize your titles and descriptions and everything else for each individual post. Friday, June 6th, 2008 at 1:50 am and is filed under Get More Traffic .
